We began Tuesday talking about the Chrysler stay pending at the Supreme Court. I spent some time explaining the difference between unsecured and secured creditors and the importance of dealing with the executive branch’s power grab.
(Later in the day the Court removed the stay much to my chagrin, allowing the sale to go forward, but preserving the substantive issues.)
Next we talked about the latest MA democrat Speaker of the House to be indicted – Sal DiMasi (the last three Massachusetts Speakers, all democrats have been indicted). I wondered what Governor Patrick knew and when he knew it. Unfortunately no one in the press is wondering the same thing.
We talked about North Korea, the two women being held there, the escalation of their nuclear weapons program and their threat to use nuclear weapons in “a merciless offensive” if provoked. What will the president do?
Dick spent some time praising MA State Senator Steve Brewer’s 29 years of service right before criticizing life time appointments to the Supreme Court. Senator Brewer was our guest at Rotary the night before. He is a very gracious tax and spend liberal.
I mentioned Senator Kerry’s $819,848 IRS lien which Dick seemed to think meant he wasn’t getting favortism from the IRS.
We discussed the Cuban spies, and their motive, (which escapes me entirely), Europe’s turn right in this week’s elections, and Hezbollah’s failure to get a majority in Lebanon.
Finally we talked about the Boston Globe’s Newspaper Guild’s “no” vote to voluntarily cut wages and the impact going forward.
Enjoy!

Dick and I were both excited about having met Kerry Healey Monday night at our weekly Rotary meeting. Kerry is the former MA Lt Governor (under Mitt Romeny) and a former Rotary Ambassadorial scholar. She was a spectacular guest, and about as open and friendly a politician as I have ever seen.
We also talked about the Government takeover of GM (Govmo), the pushback on Chrysler by the bondholders and other funky economic moves under President Obama.
Next we were on to the Obama’s date night to NY city, which Dick believes is the status quo, and I think is outrageous given the state of the economy.
We talked about the disparity between Dick Cheney and President Obama on the gay marriage issue. Cheney supports gay marriage as passed by the states – my position, and President Obama supports civil unions but opposes gay marriage.
We also talked about Sonia Sotomayor’s battle to be named to the Supreme Court and the double standard applied to minorities and white men.
We wondered when Nancy Pelosi will address her allegations that the CIA often lies to Congress , and we talked about a Chinese audience laughing at Tim Geithner’s assurances that the US economy is strong and Chinese assets are safe.
Enjoy!
